James Osborn

Adjunct Artist in Music and Director of Jazz and Wind Ensembles

Mr. Osborn enjoys a busy performing and teaching career, performing throughout the northeast with several ensembles including The Hudson Valley Philharmonic, The Hudson Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society, The Gene Krupa Orchestra, The Sammy Kaye Orchestra and many others. He has also played lead trumpet with Bobby Vinton, Tony Bennett, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Dinah Shore, Jimmy Sturr and many others and performs regularly at many Churches throughout the area.

Mr. Osborn is also the trumpeter, vocalist and leader of the dance band Heart & Soul, a popular seven piece band performing standards and contemporary dance music. The band has been voted the "Best Dance Band in the Hudson Valley" several years in The Poughkeepsie Journal's Reader Poll.

Mr. Osborn started the Jazz Ensemble at Vassar College in 1984 and the twenty-two piece ensemble now plays several dances and concerts each year. He started the Wind Ensemble at Vassar in 2001. The Wind Ensemble is a fifty piece band which performs a wide variety of wind band compositions.

In addition to teaching at Vassar, Mr. Osborn teaches Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Pit Orchestra and guitar at Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, New York. He also maintains a private trumpet studio of twenty high school and adult students from throughout the Hudson Valley. He is also a Past-President of the Dutchess County Music Educator's Association and is the founder of The DCMEA Annual Jazz Festival.
